Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) is manufactured from organic raw materials with high carbon content (coconut shell, wood, and coal). PAC typically has particle diameters less than 0.1 mm (<100 microns) and apparent densities ranging between 23 and 46 lb/ft³.

PAC is fed as a dry powder or water slurry using metering pumps in municipal water treatment plants for emergency taste, odor, and seasonal Geosmin / Methyl-Iso-Borneol (MIB) removal per AWWA standards.
